What we do with your details
The Tide is a weekly email newsletter for the Hibiscus Coast. This page says exactly what we collect, who else handles it, and how to get it back or have it deleted.

The short version
- We collect what you type into a form on this site. Nothing else.
- No cookies, no analytics, no tracking pixels, no ad networks.
- We don't sell or rent your details to anyone.
- Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to delete everything at any time by emailing hello@thetide.co.nz.
What we collect, and when
We only ever collect what a form on this site asks for, at the moment you send it. There is no collection in the background.
Signing up
the home page, and the sign-up box under a poll or question
Your email address, and the date you signed up.
That's the whole record. We don't ask for your name, and there's no account to create.
The reader survey

Which part of the Coast you live in, how long you have lived there, the topics you want covered and anything you type into the Other box, and your answers about work, education, age range, gender, household, home, whether you are thinking of buying or selling, income, investments, pets and hobbies. Your email address, only if you choose to give it.
Every question is optional except your area and topics, and the email question at the end is optional too. Answers are reported as totals — "62% of readers own their home" — never as one reader's form. If you leave the email blank, the answers aren't linked to your subscription at all. Where the survey asks about children, it asks how many are at home and their age brackets; it never asks for their names or anything else about them.
Polls and questions

The question, your answer, and any comment you type.
These are anonymous. Nothing that identifies you is sent with the answer, so we cannot tell which reader left which comment. Please leave personal details out of the comment box — it goes into the same field as everything else.
Giveaway entries

Your name, email address and the suburb you pick.
Used to run the giveaway and get in touch if you win. Entering also signs you up to the newsletter, which the form says before you enter.
Pickleball lesson signups

Your name, email address, the suburb you pick, your age, whether you have played before, and your phone number if you give one.
This one goes to somebody else: Orewa Pickleball Club runs the lesson, so we pass them the list of who has booked so they can confirm your spot and take the $75. Your age and playing experience go with it — that is how the coach splits the group. Nothing is charged on the page, and signing up doesn't subscribe you to the newsletter.
Orders

Your name, delivery address and email address.
Used to send you what you ordered and to talk to you about it.
Listing an event

The event details, plus the contact name, email and phone you give for it — and, if you choose to feature the listing, the photo you attach.
This one is different: the contact details you give are printed with the listing so readers can respond. Only send details you are happy to see published in the newsletter. A featured photo is published the same way, and is stored at a public web address so the newsletter can load it — send one you have the right to share, and leave other people out of it unless they are happy to appear.
Placing a classified

Your headline and listing copy, the category you pick, and the contact name, email and phone you give for it — and, if you choose to feature the listing, the photo you attach.
Same as an event listing: the contact details you give are printed with the classified so readers can respond, and a featured photo is published the same way, stored at a public web address so the newsletter can load it. Only send details and photos you are happy to see published.
Adding a business to the directory

The business name, category, town and description, the phone number and website you give for it, and your own name, email and phone.
This one is different: we read every submission before it goes live, so it isn't published straight away. The business phone number and website are printed with the listing once we do — only send details you are happy to see published. Your own name, email and phone are kept for us only, to confirm the listing or ask a question, and are never published.
What we use it for
- Sending you the newsletter, if you signed up for it.
- Deciding what goes in it — which suburbs and which topics readers actually want covered.
- Replying to you about a giveaway, an order, an event you sent in or a lesson you booked.
- Describing our readership to advertisers as totals and percentages. Advertisers see the shape of the audience, never a list of readers and never anyone's individual answers.
Who else handles it
A short list, each handling your details only to do a job for us.
Supabase
Stores everything the forms collect, in a database hosted in Sydney, Australia. When your browser sends a form it connects to Supabase directly, so their server logs will record the request — that can include your IP address, the same as any website you visit.
Beehiiv
Sends the newsletter. When you sign up, your email address is passed to Beehiiv so the newsletter can reach your inbox. Beehiiv is a US company, so subscriber emails are stored overseas. Like most email platforms it records whether an issue was opened and which links were clicked.
Stripe
Takes the payment if you buy something. Checkout happens on Stripe's own pages under their privacy policy — card numbers are never typed into this site and never reach us.
Orewa Pickleball Club
Runs the intro lesson you can book at /orewapickleball. We pass the club the name, email, phone, suburb, age and playing experience of everyone who books, so they can confirm your spot and take the $75. They are the only outside organisation we hand a list of readers to, and only for the lesson you booked.
Event listings, classifieds and business directory submissions go to a second Supabase database — the one behind our advertising, what's-on and directory system — because that's where those parts of the newsletter and the site are put together.
Cookies and tracking
This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics. Loading a page here makes no request to any other company — the pages are plain HTML with the styles and artwork built in, and no fonts, scripts or images are fetched from anywhere else. The only time this site talks to another server is the moment you press a submit button.
How long we keep it
- Subscriber emails — until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
- Survey answers — kept as long as they're useful for planning coverage. Ask and we'll delete yours; if you left an email we can find your row, and if you didn't, there's nothing linking it to you to find.
- Poll and question answers — kept indefinitely. They're anonymous, so they can't be traced back to you to remove.
- Giveaway entries and orders — kept while we're running the giveaway or filling the order, and afterwards only as long as we need them for our records.
- Event listings and classifieds — kept as part of the newsletter's archive of what ran.
- Business directory submissions — kept while we're reviewing them, and afterwards as part of the live listing, until you ask us to remove it or the business closes.
- Pickleball lesson signups — kept until the lesson has run and the club has its list, and afterwards only as long as we need them for our records.
Your rights
Under New Zealand's Privacy Act 2020 you can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, and ask us to delete it.
- Unsubscribe — the link at the bottom of every issue, any time. It's free and it takes effect straight away.
- A copy, a correction or a deletion — email hello@thetide.co.nz from the address you signed up with, or tell us which address to look for. We'll come back to you within 20 working days, as the Act requires.
Changes to this page
If what we collect changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top moves. Questions about any of it: hello@thetide.co.nz.
